In a world increasingly focused on sustainable energy, dialogue and community integration are proving to be key. Endesa has launched the second season of its videopodcast “Conexión a Tierra,” an innovative initiative designed to bridge the gap between rural communities and the burgeoning renewable energy sector, fostering a real debate and debunking persistent myths.

The videopodcast, hosted by farmer and agricultural engineer Pilar Pascual (Agripilar) and content creator Elisardo Pardos (Eli), showcases successful integration projects across Spain. The launch event itself, held in Arroyomolinos de León, Huelva, gathered nearly a hundred people from various rural areas, including shepherds, beekeepers, and local residents. As Rafael Sánchez Durán, Endesa’s director for Andalusia, Extremadura, Ceuta, and Melilla, stated, “This videopodcast is about bringing together people who live in rural environments with those who develop renewable projects. Dialogue is fundamental; active listening allows renewable projects to settle in the territory, becoming part of it.’

The second season of ‘Conexión a Tierra’ delves deeper into topics like repowering wind farms, where 22 wind turbines were replaced by just 4, producing more energy while preserving the environment. It also highlights surprising biodiversity benefits, such as bird spotters at wind farms whose mission is to scan the sky and halt operations if necessary, or projects focused on bat and brown bear conservation near hydroelectric plants. These episodes have explored the true impact of renewables on ecosystems, often finding increased biodiversity in areas with integrated renewable projects. The series also features practical examples like shepherd Jose Antonio Macías, whose sheep graze under solar panels, producing the first “solar cheese” in Andalusia, and beekeepers integrating hives into renewable facilities.

This project is a powerful testament to the principles of Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and Goal 13 (Climate Action). By promoting the responsible and integrated deployment of renewable energy, ‘Conexión a Tierra’ demonstrates how local communities can directly contribute to global climate goals. It serves as a vital platform for showcasing that green energy isn’t just about large-scale infrastructure, but also about creating shared value and fostering ecological regeneration, transforming landscapes into hubs of both energy production and vibrant biodiversity.

As ‘Conexión a Tierra’ continues to unravel the complexities and triumphs of renewable integration, it challenges us to consider our own role in this transition. Are we prepared to engage in the active dialogue necessary to ensure sustainable development respects and benefits all communities, or will we allow misinformation to hinder our progress towards a greener, more integrated future?
