Mingyang Smart Energy has marked a milestone in the renewable energy industry by completing the installation of the world’s largest offshore wind turbine, the MySE18.X-20MW. This giant of wind technology, located in China’s island province of Hainan, stands out for its generation capacity and innovative design.
With a flexible rotor spanning between 260 and 292 meters in diameter, this turbine can generate 80 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the yearly consumption of approximately 96,000 people. Additionally, it will contribute to emissions reduction, preventing 66,000 tons of CO₂ annually.
This achievement places Mingyang at the forefront of the race to develop larger and more efficient wind turbines, surpassing its competitor Dongfang Electric, which had previously installed an 18 MW turbine. It is also the company’s second major recent advancement, following the creation of the floating platform OceanX, designed for deep-water applications.
Mingyang continues to solidify its position as one of the world’s leading manufacturers in the sector.
