Offshore wind energy has reached a new milestone with an operational capacity of 80.9 GW, representing a 15% increase from the 70.2 GW recorded in 2023.

Key Data:

Operational Capacity:

  • 80.9 GW in 2025 vs. 70.2 GW in 2023.

Contribution by Countries:

  • China: 6.9 GW.
  • Netherlands: 1.7 GW.
These contributions account for 63% of the new capacity.

Growth in Projects and Markets:

  • Projects: From 1,461 to 1,555.
  • Countries: From 41 to 44, with the inclusion of Indonesia, Chile, and Malta.

Global Leadership and Projections:

    • China: Global leader with a portfolio of 247 GW in 437 projects.
    • United Kingdom: Second on the list with 96 GW in 123 projects. Additionally, it has 13 offshore wind projects eligible for the Contracts for Difference auction (Round 7 Allocation), adding 7.3 GW of new capacity. The total capacity in British waters is 14.7 GW.
    • Other Leading Countries:
      • United States: 79 GW.
      • Germany: 68 GW.
      • Sweden: 55 GW.

Each additional gigawatt translates into more than £2 billion for the UK economy and creates jobs for over 34,000 people.

Dan McGrail, CEO of RenewableUK:

“Our latest EnergyPulse Insights report shows that the global offshore wind energy market continues to grow at an extraordinary pace year after year, as more countries seek to capitalize on the industrial, economic, and environmental opportunities offered by this technology. The United Kingdom remains a global leader in this race, and the Government could further strengthen that position in the coming months by maximizing investment in new offshore wind capacity…”

The sustained growth of offshore wind energy drives the energy transition and reinforces investment in renewable infrastructure, paving the way toward a more sustainable and economically dynamic future.
