The European project REWIND aims to enhance the circularity of wind turbine blades by developing new methodologies for dismantling, reusing, and recycling composite materials, thus preventing their disposal in landfills or incineration. Coordinated by AIMPLAS, this project seeks to implement advanced thermal and chemical recycling technologies to convert waste into valuable resources for industries like construction and automotive.

Funded by the Horizon Europe research program, REWIND involves 14 partners across 7 countries who will contribute solutions in various fields, such as pyrolysis and catalytically assisted solvolysis recycling, reducing processing time and temperature. These advances are expected to extend the service life of wind turbines and open new markets for recycling their components.

The anticipated outcomes of this research include greater sustainability in the wind sector and the creation of new business opportunities through the application of the 7R model: Reuse, Recycle, and Rethink.
