Spain Will Open Its First Offshore Wind Auction by the End of 2025
Spain will launch its first offshore wind farm auction by the end of this year, according to an announcement on Friday by the Minister of Energy, Sara Aagesen.
She added that her government will increase the amount of permitted investment in electrical grids, which is currently limited to control electricity costs for consumers.
Objectives of the Roadmap and the PNIEC
The Offshore Wind Energy and Marine Energy Roadmap and the updated PNIEC set out the following goals by 2030:
- Achieve three gigawatts (3 GW) of offshore wind.
- Reach up to 60 megawatts (MW) from other marine renewable sources.
Selection of Facilities and Local Benefits
The Government aims to select the best facilities through tenders that will consider:
- The lowest environmental impact.
- The greatest local socio-economic benefits, such as job creation and industry.
With these measures, Spain seeks to consolidate its position as a benchmark in renewable energies at the European level, while driving economic growth and sustainability.
